Parallel Studios designed and fabricated this custom black walnut window bench to transform an underutilized alcove into a functional architectural feature with integrated storage and custom upholstered seating. Developed specifically for the space, the piece balances practical everyday use with refined detailing and careful material selection.

Constructed from solid black walnut, the bench features solid casework, a solid bench top, and custom drawer and door faces. A defining feature of the project is the series of shop made carved integrated pulls, carefully sculpted into the solid walnut to create a clean, uninterrupted appearance while remaining intuitive and comfortable to use. Sequence matched walnut grain was carried continuously across the drawer fronts to emphasize the natural character of the material. Finished with Danish walnut oil and a satin conversion varnish, the project reflects our approach to creating custom millwork that is both highly functional and carefully crafted.
